Adaptive

In the STEPS program, one of our major focuses of treatment is on adaptive skill building in our adolescent and young adult clients. These skills are essential to building independence and facilitating the best outcomes possible for our clients. The treatment team (which include the behavior analyst, behavior technician, client, and parents) determine targets of intervention in the adaptive area that are needed. Targets for intervention can also be identified through intake assessments of independent living and adaptive skills as well. Examples of adaptive skills taught in the STEPS program include matching socks, hanging up clothes, tying shoes, putting on deodorant, job readiness skills, exercise skills, brushing teeth, getting dressed, among others. Progress is tracked daily so that changes can be made to develop mastery over targeted skills. After these skills are mastered, new targets/goals are selected by the treatment team and therapy continues as the client develops.
